HollywoodLife.com: First of all, how are you feeling now?
Brandi: “At this time, I’m feeling great. My spirits are up, and I’m getting my body and mind prepped to having a second child.”
How many kids do you want to have?
“At first I wanted three, but when my Pooh Bear (my first son) was born, we changed our minds to two and I pray that I’m able to have my second.”
Why did you want to join “Basketball Wives” in the first place?
“I needed a platform and wanted to inspire women and tell my story. I wouldn’t want anyone to face what I had to face or endure what I had to endure day to day. For a while, I hid from my story because I wasn’t emotionally prepared to freely talk about my struggle. The thought of telling my story brought me to tears and the memories were bad. I had to emotionally prepare myself to openly and freely discuss everything. Now, I don’t care because I know there are women out here that need to hear my story.”
Are there any other famous famous who have inspired you with their stories?
“If it wasn’t for Diem Brown, Celine Dion or Giuliana Rancic, I don’t know what I would have done. They inspired me.”
How did you keep your strength and positive attitude during your cancer battle?
“During my battle with cancer, I kept positive people around me. My mom and my husband were so great and positive. But I can’t lie — towards the end of my battle, it became very draining. I remember at times feeling extremely angry and trapped. I felt my body shutting down everyday. I had a temper and I was angry. I remember thinking and saying to myself, ‘Why me?'”
Your husband has been an amazing support system! Were there ever any moments when you thought he would become too overwhelmed, while you were sick?
“When I was diagnosed with cancer, I was 24 and he was the same age. So yes, of course, I thought the worst. It was his third year in the NBA. But through it all, the same way I struggled is the same way he struggled. He hurt the most and had a hard time because he couldn’t be there physically like he wanted to [be]. He lived in Detroit and played for the Pistons at the time, and I moved back to Dallas to have my treatments.”
How did you deal with the rumors of your husband having an affair, thanks to your cast mate, Sundy Carter?
“My husband and I have a trusting and loving relationship. We tell each other everything, even if it hurts. I’ve known this man since we were 16 years old. As far as an affair, there hasn’t been one.”
Can you ever be friends with Sundy Carter, after she tweeted that nasty affair rumor?
“Sundy did more than just tweet about an untrue affair. She spoke very ill about my health and my family — not once, but twice. She also spoke badly about another cast member’s son. I forgive very easily and normally let go of things easily, however, I don’t respect creatures like her and have no plans of ever being her friend.”
What is your secret to a happy marriage?
“The secret to any marriage is being friends first. Without it you have nothing, and nothing to fall back on. Next is to respect one another. And lots of sex!”
