Though viewers are likely still picking their jaws off the floor after what happened in King’s Landing last week, there’s still an all-important war going on up north. And at the heart of the battle between the Knight’s Watch and the wildlings are television’s most star-crossed lovers, Jon Snow and Ygritte.
Jon Snow (Kit Harington) went deep cover in Game of Thrones, killing one of his Knight’s Watch brothers, shedding the black, and even bedding a wildling girl — Ygritte, by far the most attractive wildling in the north. But he never forgot his vows. By the end of Season 3, it was clear where his allegiances lied, and good ol’ Jon took three of Ygritte’s arrows for choosing the crows over her. Now, the impending war between the wildlings and the Knight’s Watch is personal — and Rose Leslie, the woman behind Ygritte, told HollywoodLife.com all about it.
Rose Leslie: Ygritte Wants To Get Payback On Jon Snow
No one tells Ygritte “I am yours and you are mine” and gets away with it (I recall Ygritte floating the threat of castration), so Jon’s betrayal has set his fire-haired ex on a personal warpath. “We pick up with Ygritte at the beginning of the season being a very, very different character,” Rose tells us. “She’s a scorned woman, and we all know that scorned women are dangerous, especially in the world of Westeros.”
On a larger scale, Ygritte and her band of wildlings are preparing to raid Castle Black, but there’s really only one crow she wants to kill: “She is on a ruthless mission and she is going to make sure Jon Snow pays,” Rose says.
Ygritte is “angry,” Rose reinforces, “and she’s fearless. She feels that she’s got nothing to lose. She believed everything that Jon Snow was telling her and she felt that they were going to have a life together and because that didn’t work she has a one-track mind and a one-track mission to get him back.”
And in a rare bit of spoiling, Rose indicated to us that she would indeed get another chance to mutter her famous words, “You know nothing, Jon Snow,” once again.
Ygritte’s Revenge: Will She Actually Go Through With It?
Though she’s clearly on a path of vengeance, there’s still a bit of mystery surrounding what Ygritte will actually do if and when she gets her hands on Jon. As Tormund Giantsbane (Kristofer Hivju) pointed out in the Season 4 premiere, Ygritte had the chance to end Jon’s life — three point-blank shots — and she ended up “missing,” hitting him only in non-critical spots. “If that boy’s still walking, it’s because you let him go,” Tormund (rightly) told her.
Will she let him go once again? Love overpowers many things. We’ll just have to see if it overpowers Ygritte’s thirst for revenge when the time comes.
