‘American Idol’ is down to the Top 6, but last night’s episode left viewers shocked, sending home America’s fan favorite! HollywoodLife.com chatted EXCLUSIVELY with Dexter Roberts about his elimination.
Poor Dexter! We did not think he would be sent home — and either did he. Dexter Roberts stopped backstage to chat with HollywoodLife.com, after he was sent home from American Idol. The country crooner admits he’s heading to Nashville next! Do you hope that he makes it big in Music City?
Dexter Roberts Sent Home From ‘American Idol’ — ‘I’m about to start crying!’
America infamously loves country music — and country contestants on singing competition shows — so Dexter Roberts’ elimination last night was shocking! Dexter, who was up against duet partner Jessica Meuse in the bottom, sang “Lucky Man” by Montgomery Gentry, but turns out, he was not such a lucky man.
We caught up with Dexter backstage after his surprising send-off, and while he’s sad to go, he told us that he’ll be just fine. “Oh man, I’m sorry,” Dexter said EXCLUSIVELY, adding, “It’s okay. I get to go home, hang out with my family and friends, see my dogs.” He did admit, though, that he got a bit teary eyed when his fellow contestants rushed up to stage to support him.
“I’m about to start crying!” Dexter told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “I had a great time with the guys. I’m really looking forward to the tour and coming to the finale and seeing who wins.”
But after the finale and tour, Dexter has some big plans: “I’m going to go home and I’m going to take a nap.” The country singer joked that he hadn’t slept in days and can’t wait to go home for some good old R&R — and playtime. “I told my mom if I get kicked off sometime, I’m going to get a tepee and just live in the woods for a few days [to] just get away from the city. But I’m going to keep a singing career and hopefully have a hunting show one day.”
He’s not talking about hunting down his Idol successors though (don’t worry). “No! Turkeys and ducks and whitetails,” he tells us.
Dexter Roberts: Nashville Star?
Although he has humble plans on the home front, Dexter also has big plans to head to Music City. “I’m going to hit up Nashville! I got off an interview the other day with Nashville and it was really cool.” He would love to take after one of Nashville’s finest superstars, Luke Bryan. “I love Luke Bryan. He has some good stuff,” says Dexter, admitting that his favorite of his songs is “Muckalee Creek Water.”
“I sing it all the time in the shower!” Dexter says.
His practice singing in the shower might pay off, after all! The judges advised him to work on his pronunciation. “I need to work on how I say my words and stuff,” Dexter told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “I guess it’s just the country twang in me, I reckon!”
We love Dexter’s hometown roots and hope that he brings them to Nashville!
HollywoodLifers, we’re you sad to see Dexter go? What do you hope he accomplishes next? Let us know!
