The MTV Movie Awards aired on April 13 and Conan O’Brien was hands-down the most hilarious host in MTV history, keeping the audience in stitches all night long!
Conan O’Brien, 50, is no stranger to opening monologues, but the one he gave at the 2014 MTV Movie Awards was definitely one of his best! Conan kicked off his opening routine with 50 epic celebrity cameos, closed with an amazing musical number, and kept the laughs coming in between!
Conan O’Brien As MTV Movie Awards Host: Coco’s Opening Monologue Was Hilarious
I knew from the moment that Conan tried to pick up Taylor Swift, 24, at a nail salon in an outrageously funny opening video that I was in for a night full of laughs. Watching Conan try to woo the boy-crazy pop star was definitely something I never thought I’d see, which made it all the more hysterical!
And Conan’s quest for 50 celebrity cameos was one of the best bits in awards show history! We all tune in to awards shows to see our favorite stars interact in real life, so it was amazing to see Conan round up celebs such as Lupita Nyong’O, Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, and Jessica Alba all in one place. I applaud his efforts! And how perfect was it that he was the 50th celebrity on the list — so clutch!
One of the best things about Conan is his spot-on, self-deprecating sense of humor, so it was also great to see him poke fun of himself after making a fiery entrance full of explosions and a gigantic effigy of the MTV Movie Awards’ golden popcorn trophy.
“Fire, explosions, and rap music — all things you associate with Conan O’Brien,” the late-night funnyman quipped as he stepped out on stage. The crowd couldn’t contain their laughter and neither could I!
Conan’s Vine Highlights
Some of us watch more awards shows than we do actual movies — and Conan catered to that in his opening act. He helped the audience out by playing six-second highlights of each one of the nominated films, and they really captured the essence of the flicks! I’m kind of glad that I won’t have to sit through three hours of Wolf of Wall Street now — thanks, Conan!
Coco of course went out with a bang, closing his opening monologue with a show-stopping musical number, complete with the always amusing Adam Devine and an entire gospel choir. Conan really is the host who has it all — jokes, celebs and musical talent!
All we have to say is that we are crossing our fingers that Conan will be back to host the MTV Movie Awards in 2015!
So what do you think, HollywoodLifers? Was Conan a good host? Do you hope to see him host next year too? Let us know!
