They did it! ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ was up against some seriously stiff competition this year at the 2014 MTV Movie Awards, but the Jennifer Lawrence-led blockbuster defied all the odds to take home the biggest award of the night. Are YOU happy ‘Catching Fire’ won?
There’s one golden popcorn trophy that stands above all other golden popcorn trophies at the MTV Movie Awards — the award for Movie of the Year. With a mix of monster blockbusters and Grammy-nominated stalwarts, the field was tough, but in the end, the fans clearly couldn’t get enough of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. So tell us, with so many deserving flicks up for the big award, do YOU think the right movie won?
MTV Movie Awards: ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Wins Movie Of The Year
After a ton of anticipation, Johnny Depp announced that Catching Fire was the night’s biggest winner. Co-stars Josh Hutcherson and Sam Claflin accepted the gold popcorn and thanked everyone, and obviously gave props to Jennifer Lawrence.
Catching Fire was an enormous winner this year, as the movie also took home awards for Best Female Performance (Jennifer Lawrence) and Best Male Performance (Josh Hutcherson). It’s clearly THE fan favorite.
MTV Movie Awards: Tough Competition
Like we said, this was a great year for movies — high brow and low — so really, we could have imagined any of the five flicks going home with the honor. Lupita Nyong’o‘s Twelve Years a Slave was an absolute critical darling — it won the Academy Award for Best Picture — The Wolf of Wall Street led the MTV Movie Awards with eight total nominations, and we obviously don’t need to tell you about the star power of American Hustle.
But in the end, it was Catching Fire‘s night. And we have to say, we’re totally happy with the results. What about you, HollywoodLifers? Are you glad it won? Weigh in with your thoughts and let us know!
