Aside from Oberyn Martell and Ellaria Sand, there’s another new character in Season 4 of ‘Game of Thrones’ (well, sort of) — Reek. That’s what Theon Greyjoy now calls himself after Ramsay Snow destroyed his dignity… along with his ability to reproduce. Season 3 was not kind to the once-cocky son of the Iron Islands, and unfortunately, the man who plays him, Alfie Allen, told HollywoodLife.com that the torture has only just begun.
Over the course of its first three seasons, Game of Thrones hasn’t been afraid to give its viewers some hard-to-watch moments — Ned Stark meeting the pointy end, the Red Wedding, any scene with King Joffrey — but nothing was as difficult to stomach as the torture scenes involving Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) in Season 3. Roose Bolton’s bastard son Ramsay Snow broke Theon down until there was nothing left of the arrogant prince… and then he castrated him while delightfully eating a sausage. Woof. There has to be light at the end of this horrific tunnel though, right? To find out, HollywoodLife.com chatted with the man behind Theon before his first appearance in Season 4.
‘Game Of Thrones': What’s In Store For Reek (Bye, Theon!)
And if you’re a Theon sympathizer, you’re not going to like this. Though Alfie was rather tight-lipped about his role in the newest season, he indicated that there was no way in hell Ramsay Snow and House Bolton were going to suddenly become good-willed captors. Which means things are only going to get worse for the artist formerly known as Theon — if you can even imagine that.
“We’re going to have to wait and see,” Alfie said, “but I would say the [hard-to-watch scenes] are going to keep coming.”
Spending most of his time strapped to an X-shaped cross, Theon was broken down from a cocky (pun definitely intended) prince from the Iron Islands into a worthless speck of dust without a proper name. Now the life of Reek is just beginning, and according to Alfie, it’s safe to assume that the bad times are going to roll. Until maybe his sister Yara can come to his rescue.
Alfie Allen: Theon Greyjoy Has Had Everything ‘Taken Away From Him’
While we grimaced and winced through every second of screen time Theon had in Season 3, Alfie told us he actually enjoyed the journey his character was forced to go on. “As an actor it was cool to be able to have Theon — whose only certain position of authority is when he gets in the bedroom because every decision in his life has been made for him — to have that taken away from him, stripping down to nothing, it’s great.”
Sounds like Alfie is just as sadistic as Ramsay! “I’m interested to see where he goes from now on,” the 27-year-old Brit concluded.
While we can get on board with that final sentiment, we sort of hope Reek (we’re going to have to start calling him this sometime!) doesn’t lose any other body parts. Do you agree?
