Chief Keef’s cousin and fellow rapper Big Glo was shot to death in Chicago on April 10. The rapper had just been signed to his first major label before being caught up in Chicago’s long history of gun violence.
Big Glo, whose real name is Mario Hess, was shot to death in the section of Chicago called Englewood, according to Chicago police. Police also stated that not one but two shooters opened fire on Mario around 9:45 p.m. on April 9.

The shooters left evidence everywhere as more than two-dozen shell casings were left on the scene — just south of 56th Street on Elizabeth Avenue, according to the Chicago Tribune.
“He was basically trying to just get his rap career together because that’s a good opportunity,” said Mario’s manager Renaldo Reuben. “They gave him some money up front. It was a good chance for him to get himself out the hood.”
Sadly,Mario didn’t get out in time. The rapper was shot as many as 10 times and pronounced dead at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, the Tribune reports.
A 28-year-old man was also wounded and taken to Stroger by a family member, Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said. The young man arrived at the hospital in serious condition. It is not known how many gunshot wounds he sustained.

According to police, Mario had many run-ins with the law prior to being shot — appearing in Cook County courts in at least 36 separate cases.
In September of 2002, Big Glo was charged with manufacturing and delivering cocaine. He pleaded guilty and served a year in jail.
Given his past arrest record, the question has to be asked — was Mario’s death drug related. The case is still under investigation so only time will tell.
