The playoffs began on ‘The Voice’ tonight with Team Blake taking the stage! Two singers were sent home and one was a major fan favorite. Who made it to the live shows and who was sent home?
Blake Shelton had a very tough decision tonight, April 8, on The Voice. His team kicked off the playoffs, and he had to cut two contestants from his group of five. Keep reading to see who is safe — Audra Mclaughlin, Jake Worthington, Ryan Whyte Maloney, Sisaundra Lewis or Madilyn Paige?
Team Blake Kicks Off The Playoffs
Audra Mclaughlin launched the first night of the playoffs, representing Team Blake. Her performance was so perfect that she fueled the fire between Adam Levine and Blake during the judging session!
“Because I hate Blake so much, it’s really hard to say positive things to his teammates so you should just know now that I think that you’re spectacular,” Adam told Audra. “Blake, I love you, I hate you, and congratulations.”
And Blake actually agreed with Adam! “You definitely have the other four sweating it out,” Blake told Audra, before adding that he’s going to have a tough decision to make.
Ryan Whyte Maloney, who stunned last night on the April 7 final battle rounds, was up second. Ryan brought his guitar to the playoffs to sing “Second Chance,” and reminded the coaches how unique his raspy, rocker voice is. He hit a huge note toward the end of the song that even had Usher‘s jaw dropped.
Coach Usher said that the performance was Ryan’s breakout moment and even compared Ryan to coach Adam — what a compliment! “I think I like Usher better than I like Blake now,” said Adam, joking that he wants to file for a divorce. (Bromance breakup alert!)
Blake, whose vote counts the most, said that he’s “overwhelmed” with excitement. “The bar has been set high two times in a row.”
But was it set a third time?
Madilyn Paige took the spotlight next. Remember, Blake just stole her from Team Usher last night. So did his steal pay off? Blake thought so. “I couldn’t be more confident and proud that I used my steal on you,” he told the teen. “It’s going to be tough for me…I’m not going to lie.”
After Madilyn’s performance of Zedd‘s pop hit “Clarity,” Blake admitted, “I don’t think that is the best she can do, but I still believe in her.”
Jake Worthington took on another famous Jake — country star, Jake Owen! The young male vocalist sang “Anywhere With You.”
Blake complimented Jake for being a true country crooner, and never pretending to be anyone else but his true self. However, he pointed out that he also has Audra on his team, which makes his decision that much harder because he has two country singers going head-to-head.
“Jake is going to be a tough act to follow. People love that kid, including me.” We love Jake, too!
Sisaundra Lewis‘ “New York State Of Mind” ballad put us in Sisaundra’s state of mind! The soulful singer who stunned in a beautiful black jumpsuit matched her gorgeous ensemble to her gorgeous, powerhouse voice!
No surprise here, but all of the judges were completely blown away. Usher was essentially at a loss for words, Adam couldn’t accept that Sisaundra is on Blake’s team (and not his) and Shakira said that she has “a certain glam” to her voice. Usher followed Shakira‘s praise by pinpointing her elegance, going as far as saying that she’s a standout in the whole entire world.
“It’s amazing what you do with a song,” said Blake. So amazing that Sisaundra was the first artist Blake chose to go to the live shows!
Blake Cuts Two Singers
Sisaundra made the cut first, but who else joined her in the Top 12 to go to the live shows? Audra was the next singer to be selected to stay on Team Blake.
Ryan, Madilyn and Jake all thanked Blake for being an incredible coach, but unfortunately, only one more could stick around. And that person was Jake!
We are so sad to see Ryan and Madilyn go, but a huge congrats to Blake’s Top Three — Sisaundra, Audra and Jake!
