The wrestling world was utterly shocked by The Undertaker’s defeat by Brock Lesnar, but Daniel Bryan also came out on top at WrestleMania XXX. Daniel walked away champion of the WWE’s World Heavyweight Championship!
Congrats, Daniel Bryan! The WWE champ, 32, (and Total Divas star, thanks to fiancé, Brie Bella), had the second greatest victory at WrestleMania 30 on April 6. Keep reading to learn about the smack down!
Daniel Bryan Wins WWE World Heavyweight Championship
How do you follow up the greatest defeat in WrestleMania history? By winning the World Heavyweight Championship — that’s how! And that’s exactly what Daniel Bryan did on April 6 at the WWE’s WrestleMania XXX.
The “Yes!” man competed in two matches on Sunday, April 6 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, and he walked away victorious from both.
“My entire career I feel like I’ve been doing multiple matches in a night,” Daniel told IGN, prior to WrestleMania. “I’m very confident in my ability to go out there and wrestle twice. But you just want to go out there and put on a performance that makes people proud and makes me worthy of all these cheers and everything, the adulation that I’ve been getting from the people.”
And he did just that.
Daniel’s wrestled Triple H and won, despite having an injured shoulder. Triple H didn’t take his loss easily — he knocked out Daniel with a chair to the head, after he won. Ouch! But the bearded hero took it like a champ, as he prepared for his next battle.
In a minute-by-minute diary of Daniel’s day on the WWE‘s website, he is seen kissing his fiancé, WWE Diva, Brie Bella (they’re getting married on April 11), after his win and injury, but there’s still so much more to come after The Game. Daniel tells the WWE, “I’ve got one more match. I’ve fought through worse and I’ll fight through this.”
Daniel Bryan Leads The Crowd — ‘Yes!’
Daniel walked into the arena of over 75,000 fans (who were rooting for him by a far majority) and led a massive “Yes!” chant with one arm up in the air. Remember, this was after the Undertaker’s defeat so the crowd was stunned.
Daniel went up against Batista and Randy Orton and in three-way battle, with Scott Armstrong refereeing. Regardless of his bum shoulder and chair-smackdown two hours prior, The Beard is fired up. He forces Batista in the infamous Yes! Lock, and just like that, he takes him down. Daniel Bryan is WWE World Heavyweight Champ!
Yes! Yes! Yes!
