Gravity‘s suspenseful opening sequence had moviegoers on the edge of their seats. However, a rejected alternate opening that involves a hilarious cameo from Christopher Reeves‘ Superman has gone viral, and it is guaranteed to make you laugh!
When Sandra Bullock becomes detached from the space shuttle and gets flipped out into open space at the beginning of Gravity, no one knew what to expect. It was definitely one of the most dramatic moments of the movie.
It’s hard to top that, but if anyone can do it, it’s Superman! In the alternate opening, Sandra is shown drifting off into space when Superman suddenly flies to her rescue.
With the Superman theme music behind him, he heroically grabs Sandra and brings her back to the shuttle. He appears to say something to her before he leaves but there is no audio — and that’s because there’s no sound in space, duh.
Flash back to five minutes earlier, and we see Superman on Earth hitting a baseball that travels into space and knocks out another astronaut (who, in the film was killed on impact by debris).
There has never been a movie as dominant in special effects and visuals as Gravity. Watching it in the theaters, you actually feel as if you are in space. That showed during the Oscars, when Gravity was nominated for 10 awards and took home seven of them.
OK, so the alternate opening scene is just a joke, but director Alfonso Cuaron probably could have made it work with his incredible imagination! One thing is for sure though: Gravity doesn’t need any changes to make it better.
So, what do you think, HollywoodLifers? Did you enjoy the alternate opening? Let us know!
