Triona Priestley’s dying wish was to hear from her favorite singer, Ed Sheeran. The 15-year-old lost her lifelong battle with cystic fibrosis on April 1, just minutes after Ed sang her favorite song “Little Bird” to her through the phone. So sad.
Ed Sheeran made one girl’s dying wish come true when he serenaded her over the phone just moments before her death. Triona Priestley‘s family is now extending their gratitude to the thousands of people who participated in the #SongForTri online campaign.
Ed Sheeran Grants Dying Fan’s Wish
On April 1, Triona received the phone call of her dreams. Ed Sheeran phoned in to say hello, and then he sang her favorite of his songs for her: “Little Bird.”
Triona, who was very ill and suffering through the final stages of her cystic fibrosis, drifted to sleep while Ed sang to her. Just moments after her family hung up the phone with him, Triona died peacefully in her sleep.
“Ed rang Triona and personally sang ‘Little Bird’ to her as she took her last breaths,” Triona’s friend Lucy Hanlon wrote on Facebook, according to the Daily Mail. “Triona left us listening to her idol surrounded by all the people who loved her. People’s respect is incredible. We would like to thank everyone.”
After hearing the news that Triona had passed away after their phone call, Ed paid tribute to her on Twitter.
“Rest in peace Triona, so heartbreaking x,” the singer wrote.
This is such a heartbreaking story, but Ed is an angel for helping make Triona’s dream come true before she passed.
Ed Heard Of Triona’s Wish Through Social Media
If it were not for the power of social media, Triona’s wish may never have been granted.
After the dying girl expressed her wish to hear from Ed before it was too late, her friends and family started an online campaign by using the hashtag #SongForTri.
The campaign quickly spread among Ed’s millions of fans, and soon enough his manager contacted Triona’s friend Lucy to set up the phone call.
