Cody Simpson may be comfortable going shirtless on the waves while singing his new hit, ‘Surfboard,’ but don’t expect him to be taking it off on ‘DWTS’ anytime soon, like James Maslow did!
On March 31, Cody Simpson and partner Witney Carson will hit the Dancing with the Stars floor to get down to his new song “Surfboard.” But before, the 17-year-old singer revealed to HollywoodLife.com exclusively why he’s not going to pull a James Maslow and who he feels is his biggest competition.
Cody Simpson On ‘DWTS’ — We Won’t Be Seeing Him Shirtless
Cody has taken off his shirt for his music video, “Pretty Brown Eyes” and for selfies on Instagram, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be stripping down for DWTS.
Of course after Big Time Rush’s James Maslow took his shirt off, fans wanted to see Cody’s stomach too and since many past dancers showed off their abs (hello, Sean Lowe), we had to know if it was in his plan.
“No, I’m not gonna be taking my shirt off anytime soon,” he told HollywoodLife.com exclusively. “I’m actually not into that, I want to focus on the dancing.”
Luckily for him (and James too), he has an amazing partner that helps him focus on the dancing — Witney Carson, 20, who just started on DWTS this year.
Witney & Cody Dancing To ‘Surfboard’ On ‘DWTS’
For now, he and Witney are gearing up to dance a jazz routine to his new song “Surfboard” on March 31. But just because he knows how to dance when on stage singing, that doesn’t exactly translate to the ballroom floor.
“Obviously I have some kind of head start because I know how to perform and I know how to move in general, but the ballroom stuff is a totally new ball game,” he said. “It’s a totally new way of moving.”
However, other’s with past experience definitely have a leg up! He admitted that he thinks Charlie White is his biggest competition, because of his history of ice dancing!
Cody Talks New Music: I’m ‘Mixing Old-School Influences’
His new song, which has been climbing the charts since it’s debut on March 18, may be the last we hear for a little bit from Cody — at least until DWTS is over.
“I’m really proud of ‘Surfboard,'” he told us of the new song. “I have a little other music under my belt, and plan to release an albuum at some point, depending on where my music is at. I went into the studio at the end of last year with a totally different vision of what came out, so you can never really predict where it’s going to go.”
The song was “a front runner” of all the music he’s been working on. His next album will be “mixing old school influences,” which for Cody, include the Beach Boys and Elvis! Have you listened to “Surfboard,” yet? See the video here — you’ll be hooked in a minute!
