The First Children finally made their long-awaited debut on the March 27 episode of Scandal and they sure brought the drama. Plus, Mama Pope (Khandi Alexander) continued to plan a very dangerous mission and everyone was turning up the heat.
We entered the Scandal scene with Olivia (Kerry Washington) desperate to postpone the First Family interview. The reporter told her that it would portray a really bad image of the family if they decided to not go through with it. Olivia stormed into another room to confront Jerry (Dylan Minnette) and Karen (Madeline Carroll). She’s about to handle these two crazy kids!
24 hours earlier, Mellie (Bellamy Young) and Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) were preparing for their dinner with Jerry and Karen. Mellie was very, very nervous. Fitz assured her that everything was going to be fine. But in short, the dinner was seriously awkward.
“At the end of the day, let’s all just remember that we love each other,” Fitz said at the table. (Easier said than done, Mr. President.)
Over at Pope & Associates, Olivia, David (Joshua Malina) and the rest of the Gladiators were investigating B613. Huck (Guillermo Díaz) warned Olivia that taking down B613 was a suicide mission. He really just wanted to save Quinn (Katie Lowes) before Olivia went after them. Meanwhile, Charlie (George Newbern) grilled Quinn about what went down with her and Huck. Quinn tried to make it clear she was done with Pope & Associates and Huck, but Charlie wasn’t believing it. He even offered to kill Huck. (What a guy, that Charlie.)
It’s about time things got sexy in Washington! And boy, did they get scandalous. Both the President and First Lady were getting some love from their prospective paramours.
But it was all about to blow up in their faces. When Olivia first sat down with Jerry and Karen, they just seemed off. Olivia knew something was weird about them and put her Gladiators on it.
Olivia and Fitz were making out by the Oval Office window and Mellie and Andrew (Jon Tenney) were getting down and dirty elsewhere. Olivia convieniently walked out and saw Mellie and Andrew together. She told Andrew to stay away from Mellie. Andrew shut her down quickly, because, you know, she was being a hypocrite.
Back to family matters, Karen is not a daddy’s girl, to say the least. She blasted mommy Mellie on why she was still with Fitz. Mellie said nobody was perfect. (Ain’t that the truth.) Jerry was introduced as the troublemaker of the family. He ran a parody account of his President dad and even purchased a Reston (Tom Amandes) T-shirt to wear to the interview!
Before Fitz could actually discuss anything with his kids, Karen ran out and saw Mellie and Andrew being extra scandalous, successfully becoming scarred for life. Mellie tried to reason with Karen and the First Daughter played it just like her mother. “You were on your knees with Uncle Andrew!” she said. She was angry at herself for thinking it was just Fitz being the cheater. And then she pulled a typical teenage girl move and told Mellie to get out.
Mellie wanted Olivia to cancel the interview. Olivia warned that it would be worse for them if they didn’t go through with the interview. Olivia went to talk to Jerry and Karen but not before Fitz tagged along. Karen admitted that Mellie was sleeping with Andrew and that sent Fitz into a tailspin. Fitz was so angry that he punched Andrew! (It’s hard to feel bad for Fitz, but he is always the last to know.)
In order to save the campaign, Olivia sent Andrew away. Fitz was ready to talk to Mellie. Fitz tried to play the victim. He told Mellie that it was because of her that their marriage was dead. He even said he would never have cheated if she hadn’t shut him down. He was mostly just angry for all the guilt he harbored for believing he was the only one who cheated.
So, there was this guy named Dimitri and he was subject of many conversations around Washington. B613 was trying to get information out of him, the White House wanted to know all about him, and Mama Pope wanted to know his whereabouts!
Adnan (Nazanin Boniadi) wanted out of this deal with Mama, Pope but there wasn’t one. So, she went to a place she knew was safe. Adnan wanted Olivia to assure her safety against Mama Pope. Harrison pleaded with Olivia to help because he owed Adnan. Olivia wanted to know all their plans, but Adnan wasn’t talking without immunity.
Fitz summoned Jake (Scott Foley) and demanded to know about Dimitri. Jake pretended to know nothing about him. He also told Fitz off royally. Cyrus (Jeff Perry) walked in and tried to off Jake with this really nice vase. He was so enraged that Fitz had to hold him back!
Mama Pope called Olivia and wanted Adnan back. Olivia told her mom that she doesn’t reason with terrorists. “I’d rather be a traitor than what you are,” Mama Pope said. “You’re nothing but the help and you don’t even know it.” (Major ouch.)
Earlier, Huck had asked around to have a meeting with Command. Instead, Jack set up a meeting between Huck and Quinn. Huck wanted Jake to let Quinn go. Quinn totally believed she was better off without Huck’s help. Then, things got super weird and Huck and Quinn made out. There was some licking involved and I don’t want to talk about it.
Fitz demanded to know why Mellie stopped loving him and she almost told him about Big Jerry before Olivia walked in. Fitz screamed that he was talking to his wife, which only confirmed Olivia’s fear about being the help. (Did Mama Pope know best?) Olivia bolted, but Cyrus told her he desperately needed her to stay. Olivia returned and told Fitz that everything she was doing was for her job. He needed to focus on his family and she on work. Her work was all she had left, she said. Fitz and Mellie made up and went to talk to the kids, leaving Olivia on the outside looking in.
By this time, they were finally ready for their interview — it only took a couple of crazy, drama-filled days for the First Family to brace the cameras. Even baby Teddy was there! Before the interview, Olivia got a call from her dad, Rowan (Joe Morton). Earlier, she had asked how B613 was funded and he wouldn’t tell her. After a slight change of heart, Rowan realized families stuck together and told her that the organization was funded by all departments. Olivia is entering a very dark path, that’s for sure.
Adnan and Harrison (Columbus Short) also got some sexy time in the office. However, it was all a ploy so that Adnan could inject Harrison with a needle! Fortunately, David and Abby (Darby Stanchfield) found Harrison.
All Adnan wanted was a flash drive from Olivia’s office. The flash drive contained all the information about the President and the inner-workings of the White House. (Ruh roh). Jack was watching the whole time, but stalled on taking them out.
HollywoodLifers, what did you think of tonight’s Scandal? What did you think of Jerry and Karen? How long will Andrew stay away? What is Mama Pope planning? Let us know your thoughts!
