The Avengers are back! Only this time, they’re adding two new members to the team. New stills from filming were released on March 24, leaving Marvel fans all across the world even more excited for the sequel, ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron.’
All of the characters from the 2012 film The Avengers are set to return for the sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron, but with something more exciting — two new characters! So which superheroes will be joining Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America? Find out below!
Two New ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron’ Characters Debut
The filming for the new Avengers movie began this past weekend and the excitement for it is really building. The same icons will be returning — Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johanssen) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) — however, two new characters were spotted in images from filming.
These characters are Quicksilver, played by Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen. Additionally, though you can’t see him, James Spader will be the voice of villian Ultron.
Quicksilver is a crucial character, especially since the character is appearing in Marvel’s movie, but also in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, according to the Daily News. “There are only a handful of characters that can occupy that middle ground,” a Marvel Studios chief said. “There are a few grey points after many years of negotiations and that only happens with a character like Quicksilver, who has been a part of the X-Men, the son of Magneto in those comics, but also a primary Avenger.”
Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver Will Shake Things Up
The two new additions to the superhero team were seen on the set running out of a building, away from an unseen menace. At the center of the scene was a crew member wearing a plastic silver helmet, believed to be a stand-in for Ultron.
Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, who are siblings, may be just what the Avengers sequel needs to keep devoted fans guessing. “The characters are going to be very different,” the Marvel Studios chief said. “Other than their powers, general audiences might not even know, unless they read your article, that the two are related.”
However, aside from all the excitement, fans will have to wait a while to see the movie. The release date is set for May 1, 2015.
