Crystal Reed On Allison Argent’s Death: Wanted To Be Written Out Of ‘Teen Wolf’ – Hollywood Life

‘Teen Wolf’ Shouldn’t Have Killed Off [SPOILER]

Fans were shocked after the March 17 episode of 'Teen Wolf' killed off one of its core characters. It was revealed after the show aired that the actor playing this character wanted to be written out, but was their death really the best way to do it? Another post-Moonday, another heavy heart. Jeff Davis, why do you wound your fans so? In the most shocking -- and pointless -- death of the series' run, a fan favorite and core cast member was stabbed through the stomach by one of the "Oni" -- the dark henchmen now controlled by the nogitsune with Stiles' (Dylan O'Brien's) face. In an exclusive post-mortem interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor that was killed off revealed that they actually wanted to be written out of Teen Wolf! But was the best way to honor their wishes (and their character's memory) to kill them off? We think not. See below for who was killed off, why I think it shouldn't have happened, and what else the actor had to say about their departure -- but beware of SPOILERS, obviously!

‘Teen Wolf’ — Allison Argent Shouldn’t Have Died

Crystal Reed told Entertainment Weekly that, at the beginning of Teen Wolf‘s third season, she began to speak with her representation about possibly seeking a different career path. After all, Crystal is 29 and Allison is just 17 — it totally makes sense that Crystal would look to move on from playing teenagers. We certainly won’t be the ones to begrudge her desire to leave for that reason — and let’s be honest, as much as we love Teen Wolf, the writing for the show is spotty at best, and many of our lovely core cast could do better. Not that we want to see anyone else leave. (Dylan, we’re looking at you.)

However, there are a million different ways that Allison could have been written out of the show that would not have involved a death which will only serve to further the plots of her romantic interests. I am certain that we’ll now see a lot of Scott (Tyler Posey) and Isaac (Daniel Sharman) dealing with the loss of Allison, when there is a lot that fans would love to see from these characters other than their respective manpain.

Jeff Davis has been taking too many lessons from Edgar Allen Poe, who once said that “the death … of a beautiful woman is unquestionably the most poetical topic in the world.” Jeff — it’s really not. You don’t need to kill off beloved characters as a shortcut to making an impact on your viewership. Erica (Gage Golightly) did not need to die, either. And has anybody noticed that Gerard Argent (Michael Hogan) is still alive in hospice care somewhere? And don’t even get me started on Peter Hale (Ian Bohen), you guys.

That said, we’re thankful that at least Crystal killed off her character in her own way — according to her Entertainment Weekly interview, she wasn’t supposed to be saying “I love you” to Scott. Rather, the producers tried to tell her that “[Allison] loves Isaac.” After that time they slept together once? I don’t think so. It’s clear that Crystal has a connection to Allison Argent and that she wasn’t going to let anybody interfere — it was a beautiful moment when Allison was telling Scott that she loved him. However, I think we can all agree that ending the arc of a strong, powerful hunter on the note of her romantic relationships is a real bummer.

‘Teen Wolf’: Tribute Site’s Touching Memorial To Allison Argent

Basically, my point is this: Jeff Davis, we love Teen Wolf, and your fans want to be here for you. We love the characters you’ve created, and we want to see them through. However, you’re making it difficult when you’re using their deaths as a marketing ploy to pump up ratings. While Allison had as much of a hero’s death as possible — she died in battle, and after she was stabbed she asked if Lydia (Holland Roden) was safe — Allison Argent deserved better than this, and we hope that Crystal has a fruitful pilot season. We can’t wait to see what she does next!

What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Do you agree that Allison didn’t need to be killed off, or do you think that it was a fitting end for her? Vote and sound off below!
