The first official image of Matt Ryan as DC Comics hero John Constantine has officially been revealed — and it’s pretty safe to say you won’t be disappointed.
Matt Ryan As John Constantine: First Photo Revealed
With the success of the CW’s Arrow, DC Comics is giving Marvel a run for its money when it comes to the small screen these days.
In addition to Fox’s buzzy Gotham series — which will focus on the pre-Batman life of the officer formerly known as Commissioner Gordon — NBC is banking on their pilot Constantine, which stars Matt Ryan as the titular con man slash occult detective. The first official look at the character’s iconic costume was unleashed on March 13, and fans of the Hellblazer series hero should be quite pleased.
Not only is Matt smoldering — which is a huge plus, obviously — but he wears his character’s infamous cynicism and sarcasm all over his genetically blessed face. The outfit itself is pretty basic when compared to The Flash suit, but the sloppy neck tie and signature tan trench coat fits him well. We can’t wait!
‘Constantine’: The Basics
Though Constantine hasn’t been sent straight to series like Gotham, the odds look pretty promising given the talent involved. The NBC and Warner Bros. pilot comes from executive producers Daniel Cerone from Dexter, David S. Goyer from The Dark Knight Christopher Nolan film trilogy, and director Neil Marshall of Game of Thrones fame. That’s a pretty damn solid line-up.
“I’ve been a fan of John Constantine since he was first introduced in 1985,” Goyer said in a press release. “This Constantine, envisioned by Neil Marshall and embodied by Matt Ryan, looks like he sprang directly from the comics’ covers.”
What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Will you be tuning in for Constantine?
