Listen up! This is not a rumor — Lil Wayne announced himself that he will retire, after his upcoming album Tha Carter V is released, confirming to MTV News late last night that, “It’s the final Carter album. It’s stopping at five.”
Lil’ Wayne Announces Retirement
Lil Wayne has been at the center of the worst rumor in the world: a death hoax. Now, we all know he’s not dead, but he’s about to be dead to the world of music. To fans, the rapper’s retirement is quite possibly the worst announcement ever, but behold, it’s not a rumor. Lil Wayne confirmed the news himself! Tha Carter V will be his last solo LP.
“I personally plan on this being my final solo album, yes and it’s definitely the final Carter album,” Lil’ Wayne told MTV News on Wednesday, March 12. He adds, “It’s the final Carter album. It’s stopping at five.”
The site is also reporting that the upcoming album, which is set to debut on May 5 of this year, may be released at a different date.
There’s Still A Chance Lil Wayne May Not Call It Quits
Although the rapper was loud and clear that he was very serious about his retirement, there’s still hope for us fans. What would convince him to release yet another solo album? Money!
“25 to 35 million would get me to do another solo album after this,” the Young Money artist admitted to MTV.
That’s a lot of cash money, but don’t fret. If Lil Wayne isn’t granted the big bucks, you’ll still hear more from him, and his friends. “Whenever I have to pitch in for a Young Money album, a Like Father, Like Son album and something like that and maybe something out the blue.”
In the meantime, you can overcome your grief with excitement for Tha Carter V. “It seems like it will be impossible for me to work this hard again for anything else,” he said. Go Weezy!
