‘Game of Thrones’ actor Kristian Nairn — publicly known as the simple-minded Hodor — came out as gay on a March 11 interview with a ‘GoT’ fan site.

Kristian Nairn has been out and proud for a long time, but the Game of Thrones star didn’t really have a chance to talk about it until a question about “the gay community” came up during a March 11 interview. Hodor.

‘Game Of Thrones”s Hodor Is Gay — ‘I’ve Never Hidden My Sexuality’

Kristian didn’t show up (or call in) for his interview intending to chat about his sexuality, but when the 38-year-old actor was asked about his popularity in the gay “bear” community, he answered with an impressive amount of candor.

“Well, in all honesty, when you talk about ‘the gay community,’ you are talking about my community,” Kristian tells “I am aware of it yeah, and I think it’s really lovely. There’s not a day that I don’t get a few messages, but 99% or more are super sweet and nothing smutty at all! Again, it’s a privilege, and I really mean that. I’ve never hidden my sexuality from anyone — my whole life in fact — and I’ve been waiting for someone to ask about it in an interview, because it’s not something you just blurt out. I’ve tried to lead the questions a few times, to no avail!”

The interviewer then asked if he had come out to his (many) Game of Thrones cast mates — particularly the children — and if he had experienced any negativity due to his sexual preferences.

“I had an upbringing to respect other people’s privacy, and their right to be and choose what they want, and I expect — no — demand no less for myself,” he says. “It’s a very small part of who I am on the whole, but nonetheless, in this day and age, it’s important to stand up and be counted. I have and always will stand my ground. So, yeah, people have been great, on the show, but I don’t see why it would be an issue… I would love to see the children in question on the show react to [someone telling them] that. That’s so not even been an issue. The families and kids on the show are so switched on to reality, ‘old ways’ aren’t an issue.”

Awesome! Also — Hodor.

‘Game of Thrones’ Producers Know How It Will End

Kristian’s not-exactly-news came on the same day as another GoT revelation — the show’s executive producers David Benioff and D. B. Weiss revealed that they know the ending to George R. R. Martin‘s books!

“Last year we went out to Santa Fe for a week to sit down with him [George R. R. Martin] and just talk through where things are going, because we don’t know if we are going to catch up and where exactly that would be,” Benioff says. “If you know the ending, then you can lay the groundwork for it. And so we want to know how everything ends. We want to be able to set things up. So we just sat down with him and literally went through every character.”

What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Are you impressed by Kristian’s matter-of-fact candor? Will you be tuning in to Thrones on April 6? (Silly question — of course you will!)
