Ebony Wilkerson, the mom who drove her minivan full of children into the ocean on Tuesday, March 4, is now facing first degree murder charges. More details here.

The pregnant woman who drove her minivan into the ocean with her 3 children in the back is now facing murder charges.

Minivan Mom Facing 3 Counts Of Murder

Ebony Wilkerson, 32 was taken into custody by the Volusia County’s Sheriff’s Office after being released from the Halifax Health Medical Center for her mental evaluation. Sheriff Ben Johnson confirmed that Ebony, 27 weeks pregnant, was arrested by deputies at the hospital and taken immediately to Volusia County Branch Jail. During a live press conference, the Sheriff also confirmed that she will face serious charges for her attempt at killing her three children. The official statement says:

“Concluding that it was an intentional act designed to kill her children, Sheriff’s investigators arrested Wilkerson on Friday on three counts of attempted 1st-degree murder and three counts of child abuse.”

Ebony drove her minivan on to a Daytona, Fla. beach and directly into the Atlantic ocean with all three of her children inside. She made no attempt to get out of the minivan after it was in the water, and witnesses have claimed that she tried to stop rescuers from saving the third child after the first two were rescued.

Family Thanks ‘Brave’ Beach Rescuers

Although the family has been silent since the incident, they have now publicly thanked the people who risked their own safety to save the children from the minivan. Multiple bystanders rushed into the water to pull the children and Ebony out of the van as it was tossed around by the strong current. Even though the water level was just barely above the tires on the car, at one point the crashing waves cause the van to almost flip over on top of some of the rescuers.

Jessica Harrell, Ebony’s sister who called the police after she left the house out of concern, announced in a statement that Ebony moved to Florida to escape an abusive relationship. Jessica also confirmed that Ebony is now receiving treatment for “multiple health issues.”
