Isaiah Washington Returns To ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
Isaiah is set to reclaim his role as Burke, the heart surgeon/former flame of Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) in an episode airing in May.
The veteran actor is making his first appearance since season three of the ABC medical drama, when Burke left Cristina at the altar, and the actor was let go from the series, reports EntertainmentWeekly.com
Show’s creator, Shonda Rhimes, said in a statement that Burke’s return is a vital part of providing closure to Cristina. Unfortunately, Sandra is set to leave the series as well at the end of the 2014 season.
“It’s important to me that Cristina’s journey unfolds exactly as it should,” Rhimes said. “Burke is vital to that journey — he gives her story that full-circle moment we need to properly say goodbye to our beloved Cristina Yang,” reports EntertainmentWeekly.com
Isaiah Returns To ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ After Seven Years
On June 7, ABC Studios confirmed that Burke (Isaiah) broke off his wedding to Cristina (Sandra), and skipped out in the May 2007 finale. The studio later announced that Isaiah would not be returning to the show.
The decision was the end result of months of speculation after an incident, when Isaiah used the word ”faggot” during an on-set argument with co-star Patrick Dempsey, reportedly in reference to co-star T.R. Knight. The blowup prompted T.R. to announce he was gay in October of that same year.
