It was a therapeutic night on ‘Pretty Little Liars’ as Aria finally confronted her Ezra-demon, Spencer confronted her drug-demon, Emily confronted the various demons populating Rosewood high, and Hanna… well, Hanna just kind of hung out with a bunch of hot dudes. However, the biggest revelation of the night had nothing to do with therapeutic breakthroughs — a shocking new ‘A’ was revealed!
Pretty Little Liars fans were probably thinking that the Aria (Lucy Hale) and Ezra (Ian Harding) confrontation would be the biggest shocker of the night, but a timely new “A” reveal definitely made their little scuffle seem like child’s play.
‘Pretty Little Liars’ Recap — Mrs. DiLaurentis Is A?!
Yep, you heard me — looks like Mrs. D (Andrea Parker) might be the big A. Why? I have absolutely no clue. I get why she might torture the Liars after Alison’s not-murder, but why would she terrorize her own daughter? And are moms REALLY that good at using modern technology and social media? I guess we’ll find out more about Mrs. D and her treacherous ways in the coming weeks…
Anywho, let’s talk about how we got there. First, there was Aria. And Aria was a mess — at the beginning of the night she was curling her hair differently, and drunkenly making out with a college boy at that school where her dad teaches and sleeps with students up in Syracuse. She then started shacking up with said college boy, Riley (Nick Roux), at the local Hilton, and they quickly fell in lovvvvveee.
To be fair and completely non-sarcastic, their little romantic tryst was pretty darn adorable. It was like some serious, straight out of Before Sunrise type of s–t. She completely opened up to Riley about her Ezra-related heartbreak, then before they departed to live out their separate lives, he handed her a “beat up a jerk” coupon — and I cannot have been the only one hoping she would immediately use it on Ezra, here. (ASIDE: Maybe in nine years they’ll find each other again? Before Sunset? No? You guys should really rent those movies.)
Anywho, Aria decided to pay Ezra a non-violent visit instead. She told him to get the hell out of town, and he responded by handing her a copy of his manuscript and some BS lie about not publishing it. “Thanks, but I think I’ll wait until it’s in the clearance bin,” Aria snapped.
‘Pretty Little Liars’ Recap — Hanna & Spencer Gather Some ‘A’-vidence
As Aria was living out romantic fantasies in Syracuse, Spencer (Troian Bellisario) was stuck indoors due to her rehab situation. (Of course, the fact that her in-house drug counselor was a ridiculously hot, 20-something hottie from The Vampire Diaries helped.)
The counselor — Dean — didn’t really do much if we’re being honest, but Spencer did suffer from some crazy acid flashbacks revolving around the night of Ali’s disappearance. She’s now convinced that she hurt Ali, and the pile of dirt that was left in her sheets — coupled with a note saying “I know you dug her grave, now I’m digging yours” — certainly didn’t help. However, Mrs. D outed herself as a suspect pretty quickly when she made a strange comment to Spencer about nothing being better than a pair of fresh sheets. So sneaky, A!
The other thing that happened to Spencer tonight was that she received a letter from the absent Toby, but we didn’t get to see what it said. So yeah, we’ll get to that next week — because, obviously, there’s a much more important letter at hand… the letter Paige sent to Officer Holbrook (Sean Faris).
Hanna met with Officer Hottie-Brook at the beginning of the episode, and he quickly presented her with the letter Paige had mailed him last week — the one claiming that Ali was still alive. Then Hanna was approached by our long-lost friend Officer Triangle-Hair, and it became clear that they both considered her to be a suspect. Yikes!
Later that night, Hanna went on a date with Travis (Luke Kleintank), which gave Hanna her clue about Mrs. D. The suddenly publicly crazy lady crashed the big date to terrorize Hanna, but she was quickly collected and brought in to the station by Officer Hottie-Brook and Triangle-Hair, who‚ of course, just so happened to be there.
‘Pretty Little Liars’ Recap — Emily Has A Moment
Then there was Emily (Shay Mitchell), who was the only one who didn’t manage to receive a giant clue about Mrs. D tonight. But she did get to tell off Ezra, and she freaking stepped in front of Mona’s moving car in order to get some truth about her relationship with Ezra.
Which was… a letdown. Sigh. Mona basically knew nothing other than the fact that Ezra knew something, so the biggest Mona reveal tonight was that she broke up with Mike in order to please Ezra, who had forced her to date him in order to gather info on Aria. (But then she legitimately fell in love, natch.)
So at this point in the night — once Emily had spoken to Mona, Spencer had been creeped out by Mrs. D, Hanna had witnessed Mrs. D being brought in to the station, and Aria had read some of Ezra’s book — the gals all finally decided to sneak out and meet. And that’s when Aria revealed the big news — Ezra totally outed Mrs. D as a legitimate suspect in his book! Gasp!
What did you think of the episode, Liars of all size and levels of attractiveness? Do you buy Mrs. D as a legitimate suspect? What do you think will happen with Hanna and Emily now that Hanna has confronted her about the letter? And what do you think Toby’s letter contained? Let me know in the comments!
