On the ‘Being Amber’ special that aired on MTV on Feb. 23, former ‘Teen Mom’ star Amber Portwood revealed that even though she is sober now, she still wants to get high ‘all the time.’ How will Amber avoid a relapse?
Amber Portwood, 23, was released from Indiana’s Rockville Correctional Facility on Nov. 4, 2013 nearly four years earlier than scheduled. Now, the original Teen Mom star is opening up about what she struggles with the most since her release — staying sober.
Amber Portwood — I Want To Get High
On Feb. 23, the Being Amber special that aired on MTV chronicled the weeks following Amber’s release from prison. The Teen Mom star was released four years early thanks to a rehab program she agreed to be a part of. In the hours following her release, Amber re-connected with her immediate family, including her 4-year-old daughter, Leah Shirley. Even though she had been sober for one whole year in jail, Amber realized that staying sober outside of lock up was not as easy as it originally seemed.
“I’ve f***ing been wanting to get high all day, since I woken up this morning,” Amber shared during the Being Amber special. “I swear to God. Being free is so much different than being in prison and being sober. It’s just so hard!”
Spending Time With Family Keeps Amber Sober
Anyone who has struggled with addiction can agree with Amber — staying sober is hard. But thankfully, Amber has a wonderful family supporting her. Her relationship with Leah’s father, Gary Shirley, has also become much more stable and civil. Hopefully, everyone she loves can continue to be there for her as she follows the road to recovery and puts her life back together.
“I’m always gonna have triggers,” Amber confessed. “I’m always gonna wanna get high. That’s never gonna go away. My best way to cope right now is hanging out with family.”
Hey HollywoodLifers — What do you think about Amber’s battle with sobriety? Do you think she can keep it together this time?
