Nancy Kerrigan has finally spoken out about being brutally attacked by figure skating rival Tonya Harding’s ex-husbangs before the 1994 Winter Olympics.
Nancy Kerrigan finally broke her silence in NBC’s Feb. 23 documentary Nancy & Tonya and revealed exactly what she thinks about what she calls the “bizarre craziness” that went down in 1994. In case you need a refresher, Nancy was assaulted with a metal rod by Tonya Harding‘s ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly, before the 1994 Olympic Winter Games. It was labeled as the “whack heard round the world” and no has been able to stop talking about it since.
Nancy Kerrigan: ‘I Don’t Give A Damn’ About The Tonya Harding Scandal
The documentary revisited the attack that transpired and the relationship between Nancy and Tonya at the time. Although Nancy admits she and Tonya were never close friends, she doesn’t directly say that she believes Tonya knew ahead of time about the attack.
“I would have chosen a different path if I could,” she said. “I would’ve liked to have just done what I worked so hard for and not have to be linked like that. I could be linked as ‘we’re teammates’ as opposed to this horrific act.”
Nancy & Tonya: Dueling Documentaries
NBC’s documentary aired a few weeks after ESPN’s 30 for 30: The Price of Gold, in which the focus was mainly Tonya.
“She’s a princess,” Tonya once said about Nancy. “I’m a piece of crap.”
In the documentary, Tonya continued to claim that she had no clue about the attack and that she’s apologized to Nancy countless times.
HollywoodLifers, are you surprised by Nancy’s response?
