Plus, find out why Austin says fans will love JT and Tess’ new ‘path.’
It’s been a hell of a season for JT (Austin Basis) on The CW’s Beauty & The Beast. “He’s had a rough time adjusting to Vincent 2.0,” Austin tells HollywoodLife.com. “There was no JT 2.0, so he really had to roll with the punches, and I think that’s a testament to his loyalty as a friend.”
And if you think that loyalty is done being tested, think again!
“There’s only room to grow,” Austin says of JT’s friendship with Vincent (Jay Ryan), noting that things have only gotten crazier since JT’s not-so-little secret was revealed earlier this season.
JT & Tess Getting Together ‘Sooner’ Than We Think?
Friendships are nice, but what about love? Austin says it’s “obvious” that JT has strong feelings for Tess (Nina Lisandrello), and that it’s only a matter of time before she “allows this nerd to let him into her butch-cop world.” He likes that opposites attract, and he urges Beasties to be patient.
“Our writers have a way of giving the fans what they want, but not necessarily the way fans want them,” Austin admits. “It’s a give and a take. You can’t write a show just by fans’ whims, because then the artistic and creative aspect of the show becomes too communal. It’s important to maintain the singular voice of the series.”
That said, the more time JT and Tess spend working together — especially now that Tess is clued in to what’s really going on with Catherine (Kristin Kreuk) — the closer they’ll become.
“The JT and Tess relationship, and the path that takes, will be fun for the audience… and sooner than they think, I think,” Austin teases.
Will The Past Come Back To Haunt Vincent & Catherine?
And JT isn’t the only character with a twist on the horizon! Austin says fans can expect to have their minds blown — either during tonight’s episode, or when the show returns March 3 — by a massive VinCat-centric revelation.
As you know, Kat has been heavily investigating her ancestor Rebecca Reynolds to find out how she’s connected to the whole human-beast situation. Vincent has been similarly looking into his own history, and Austin tells us that all this digging into the past will lead to an unexpected shift in VinCat’s relationship.
“I don’t want to compare it to anything Shakespearean, but it will definitely add a new dynamic that fans will enjoy.”
