We’ve already seen Stiles (Dylan O’Brien) lose his mind this season, but on the Feb. 10 episode of Teen Wolf, Beacon Hills’ most adorable dyslexic went the extra mile by losing himself, entirely. At least he made a new friend in the process — even if that “friend” was a horribly disfigured, riddle-spouting mental patient who only existed in Stiles’ twisted mind.
As if that concept wasn’t crazy enough to grasp, we eventually learned that Stiles’ new BFF is actually a dark spirit possessing him, and now he has full control of Stiles’ body! We got our first real taste of what Evil Stiles is capable of at the end of the hour when he faced off against Kira’s (Arden Cho) mom, who suggested that the Oni — which appear to work for her, by the way — are plotting to destroy the spirit possessing his body.
If you’re confused, don’t worry, you’re not alone. This episode was an hour-long mind screw that introduced more information than I’m capable of processing in a single evening. Needless to say, my dreams will be haunted by Stiles and his jammies.
The one good thing about Stiles going missing was that it gave the pack an excuse to work together as a semi-united team.
Lydia (Holland Roden) tried to use her super banshee hearing powers to track the little guy down, but it was ultimately Scott’s (Tyler Posey) parents who came to Stiles’ rescue. Unfortunately, finding him was only the beginning; he had to undergo tests to find out if he has frontotemporal dementia, which I know to be a real thing, because I Googled it.
And how friggin’ adorable was that #Brothers moment between Stiles and Scott?! I don’t care that Scott’s dad is back in the picture; Scott’s mom and Stiles’ dad need to be together so their boys can become for-realz brothers.
Tired of merely lurking in the shadows like it’s his job, Derek (Tyler Hoechlin) found a new hobby this week: suspecting people about stuff! It took him a hot second to figure out that Kira wasn’t telling him everything about her encounter with Barrow at the power plant, which we — the viewers — already knew to be true.
And in the episode’s final moments, we got a hint that Kira could be the one destined to defeat the spirit possessing Stiles. Is she the character who’s about to die?
But my favorite part of this week’s episode — and, mind you, I might be focusing on the wrong thing — was the subplot about Allison (Crystal Reed) possibly forgetting to turn her phone back on. When your friends are getting killed on a bi-weekly basis, are you ever allowed to leave a text message unchecked?!
Anyway, it turns out Allison’s phone was shut off by some yet-unknown force, which also loaded a fake recording from an internment camp in California — which Kira’s dad seemed to know quite a bit about. So, basically, neither of Kira’s parents should be trusted.
