Rob Ford Bob Marley Day

Rob Ford wants to be jammin’ with you, Toronto! Canada’s most controversial mayor has declared Feb. 6 Bob Marley Day, in honor of the late reggae legend’s birthday.

Jamaican singer Bob Marley died in 1981 at age 36. He would have been 69 today, and in honor of the late legend’s birthday, Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has called for a citywide celebration!

It’s no surprise that Rob Ford is a Bob Marley fan — at least not to anyone who’s witnessed the mayor’s sweet dance moves! In a video posted in December, 2013, Mayor Ford was shown dancing to the Bob Marley song One Love during a council session.

In his official proclamation of Bob Marley Day, Mayor Ford said, “We honor the legacy of Robert (Bob) Nesta Marley, an influential musician, advocate for human rights and international ambassador of peace.”

Bob Marley was widely known for his marijuana use, and considering the mayor’s track record with drugs, we were expecting a different explanation for the declaration! But it sounds like Mayor Ford has some valid reasons for honoring the great Bob Marley.

Rob Ford: Mayor Of Toronto Admits To Smoking Crack

“Yes, I have smoked crack cocaine,” Mayor Ford, 44, said to reporters who gathered at Toronto City Hall on Nov. 5, CBC News in Toronto reported. “But, no — do I? Am I an addict? No. Have I tried it? Um, probably in one of my drunken stupors, probably approximately about a year ago.”

His admission came on the heels of yet another accusation of drug abuse. Toronto’s police chief announced on Oct. 31 that a video of Rob smoking a crack pipe had surfaced.

The embattled mayor has been pressured to step down from his position, but he refuses to do so. Although we’re sure that many of Mayor Ford’s constituents are Bob Marley fans, we doubt this declaration will do anything to help repair the mayor’s rock bottom approval rating — One Love, or not.
