The longest tenured host of ‘Weekend Update’ said goodbye on ‘Saturday Night Live’ on Feb. 1 with an emotional, hilarious segment that saw Stefon, Andy Samberg and Amy Poehler return. Watch Seth’s final ‘Weekend Update’ below and try not to cry!

The only bad thing about Seth Meyers becoming the host of Late Night is that he has to leave Saturday Night Live and “Weekend Update!” But since he had to go, he went out with a bang — featuring Stefon (Bill Hader), Amy Poehler, and Andy Samberg — with one of the best “Weekend Updates” ever.

Seth Meyers’ Final ‘Weekend Update’

After Seth’s last joke, his “Weekend Update” co-anchor Cecily Strong pointed out that it was the final one, and then she invited some old friends to join them at the desk — Stefon, Andy and Amy! Amy was Seth’s mentor when he was coming up on SNL, Andy is one of Seth’s best friends, and Stefon was easily the most popular “Update” character Seth interacted with, so it was perfect having them on while Seth said goodbye.

He gave a teary send-off, saying, “This is the job I always wanted, and I’ve had the best time and I’ve met the best people, and I just wanna thank the crew and the cast, and especially the writers and Lorne [Michaels].” And with that, Seth humbly let Cecily do the sign-off, and his time as a “Weekend Update” anchor was over. So bittersweet!

Seth Meyers: From ‘SNL’ to ‘Late Night’

Seth has been behind the “Weekend Update” desk since 2006 when he joined Amy. Seth went solo after Amy left from 2008 to 2013. This most recent season, Cecily Strong became a “Weekend Update” co-host to start the transition into a new era. She’ll continue to do the segment, along with Colin JostSNL‘s head writer.

Meanwhile, Seth will follow in his fellow “Weekend Update” alum Jimmy Fallon‘s footsteps by taking over Late Night. His hosting gig starts on Feb. 24, and fittingly, his first guest will be his former “Weekend Update” co-host, Amy Poehler.

But we’ll always remember Seth’s amazing sendoff, and it’s going to be hard for us to watch SNL and not see him on “Weekend Update.” What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Are you sad Seth’s leaving? Was this an amazing goodbye? Watch below and let us know!
