Do you love the turtles’ beefed-up design, or do you miss the friendlier faces of yore?
At this point, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are basically the Madonnas of the reptilian world, emerging with a brand-new look upon each reincarnation. And new photos from the set of Michael Bay‘s big-budget Ninja Turtles epic reveal we’re in for the most intense transformation yet!
[UPDATE: All photos from the Ninja Turtles set have been taken down at the request of the studio.]
Several photos, originally published on ComicBookMovie.com, show pumped-up versions of Leonardo (voiced by Pete Ploszek), Raphael (Alan Ritchson), Donatello (Jeremy Howard) and Michelangelo (Noel Fisher) — a far cry from the more cartoonish drawings that first surfaced online.
This should be a relief for die-hard Ninja Turtles fans, who have been subjected to far more child-like versions of the turtles in recent years, from the 2007 movie TMNT to the current Nickelodeon animated series.
Of course, the good guys aren’t the only ones worth getting excited about! The new batch of photos also gives us our first look at Shredder (William Fichtner), who has somehow become even more terrifying over the years.
‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles': What’s The Movie All About?
Set to be released later this year, the new movie is a re-telling of the turtles’ origin story, reportedly borrowing from the alien aspects of the original comic books. (Turtles from space? Say what?!)
And along with the aforementioned voices, the film will also feature live-action appearances from some pretty well-known stars. Megan Fox will be stepping into the role — but, sadly, not the ridiculous yellow jumpsuit — of ace reporter April O’Neill, while Will Arnett will assist her as the ever-bumbling Vernon Fenwick.
