‘Maleficent’: Lana Del Rey Sings ‘Once Upon A Dream’ In New Trailer

The new ‘Maleficent’ trailer that premiered during the Grammy Awards on Jan. 26 has us itching to see Angelina Jolie in full villain mode, but it also has us celebrating the return of Lana Del Rey! Hear her sing a Disney tune in the trailer below.

We never realized that Angelina Jolie and Lana Del Rey are basically each other’s spirit animals until last night, Jan. 26, when the new trailer for Maleficent featuring Lana singing “Once Upon a Dream” debuted during the Grammy Awards.

Lana Del Rey Haunts ‘Maleficent’ Trailer

Angelina (and those chiseled cheek bones!) looks totally haunting as Maleficent, as she confidently strides across the screen and basically just scares the crap out of everyone.

But much of that powerful, ominous feeling can be credited to Lana Del Rey and her rendition of the Sleeping Beauty classic, “Once Upon a Dream.” Lana’s baroque, ethereal voice drawls over the lyrics and lends a horrifyingly dark undertone to once-cheery lines like “I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream.”

No one does melodramatic quite like Lana, but paired with the tenacity of Angelina as Maleficent, it actually works in this case. Seriously, this trailer is so good.

Lana Del Rey’s Triumphant Return

And we’re also just happy to hear Lana again. After “Young and Beautiful,” her song for The Great Gatsby in the spring of 2013, the singer has kept relatively quiet, even though a remix of her song “Summertime Sadness” did become a summer sleeper hit.

We’re happy to have her back, even if she’s going to be in our nightmares from now on. Watch the trailer above and tell us what you think of Lana’s cover!
