Three Dead After Columbia Mall Shooting

The shooting happened at about 11:15 a.m. on Jan. 25 at the Columbia mall, which is just outside of Baltimore. The incident was confirmed by Howard County Police:

Shoppers were evacuated after shots rang out, as police and firemen rushed to the scene. A man whose daughter was inside the mall told him over the phone that she was taking shelter inside a Bank of America with dozens of other people, according to NBC News. “Mall is closed,” security spokesman told NBC News. “[We] believe that the situation may be over, but the mall was closed.”

The Howard County Police have since confirmed that three people were killed in the shooting. The HCPD’s Twitter account also confirmed that one of the deceased is the suspected shooter:

There is no explanation for why this horrible act of violence occurred. More details are surely to come out, as this is a developing story.

This is the third shooting in a week, after one student was killed at South Carolina State University on Jan. 23 and one person was shot and killed at Purdue University on Jan. 21.
