Now that the deed is done, Caroline has a major decision on her plate: Should she keep the Klaroline fire burning, or let it fizzle out?
Well, it finally happened: Klaus (Joseph Morgan) returned to Mystic Falls on the Jan. 23 episode of The Vampire Diaries and — for lack of a better term — banged Caroline (Candice Accola) against every tree in the forest. And while a huge part of the fandom is probably still panting over the sexy twist, Klaroline’s one-day stand leaves us with a few questions: Where will the twosome go from here? Should Caroline follow Klaus’ lead and ‘woosh’ off to New Orleans?
Obviously it wouldn’t be fair for me to just yammer on about how I think Caroline would be making a huge mistake going after Klaus, so I enlisted HollywoodLife.com‘s resident Klaroline enthusiast Shaunna Murphy for a little debate!
Andy Says: Caroline Needs To Keep Her Distance From Klaus
I’ve always dreaded the day Klaus and Caroline would inevitably hook up, but I think the writers handled it really well. As executive producer Julie Plec told our sister site TVLine, Caroline just needed to get her lusty Klaus feelings “out of her system” once and for all. I’ve never denied that Caroline feels something for Klaus, and no one can blame her for being attracted to him.
But even if Caroline loves Klaus — which I don’t believe she does — I think Klaus has a lot of growing up to do before he can even consider being in an actual relationship. He may be an all-powerful Original, but he’s emotionally unstable, and in no position to be anyone’s boyfriend.
I’m also not saying I think Caroline needs to immediately hop back into Tyler’s (Michael Trevino) arms, either. Their relationship is admittedly pretty messy; she gave him an ultimatum, and he chose revenge over her. I’d actually like to see Caroline explore the single life for a while, and really get to know herself — but I’m not holding my breath. People don’t tend to stay single for long in Mystic Falls… except Matt (Zach Roerig) for some inexplicable reason.
Shaunna Says: Caroline Should Follow Klaus To New Orleans
I need to preface this by saying that Caroline absolutely needs to finish college before she runs off with Klaus to live out the crazy adventures she’s been dreaming about ever since Katherine snapped her neck back in Season 2.
It’s true that Klaus is the ultimate bad boy, and that he’s done some pretty unforgivable things, but to people like the family of that school carnival employee, so has Caroline! I appreciate Julie’s assessment that Klaus currently has major concerns in New Orleans — just like Caroline does at school — but once that baby is born, let’s be realistic… it’ll be better off with Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies). Klaus can be the “fun uncle” or something like that.
Also, Caroline has an adventurous spirit, and while Elena (Nina Dobrev) is an amazing friend, she’s also been the driving force in Caroline’s life over the past few years. Caroline needs to do her own thing, and explore who she is without her hometown crew weighing her down — and Klaus, who has traveled the world a million times over and knows how to have a good time better than anyone, is just the man to help her on that journey.
Will they end up together forever? Who knows. But bottom line, Klaus can help Caroline break out of her suffocating Mystic Falls shell and discover the badass, world-traveler vamp she was truly meant to be.
HollywoodLifers, what’s your take on Klaus and Caroline’s future? Should she follow him to New Orleans, or stay behind in Mystic Falls? Drop a comment with your hopes for ‘Klaroline’ below.
