On Jan. 21, the NFL announced that Renee Fleming would be the lucky star to sing ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ at the 2014 Super Bowl!
Four-time Grammy winner Renee Fleming will be taking the field before the Denver Broncos take on the Seattle Seahawks on Feb. 2 at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium. She’s the first opera singer ever to sing at the big game!
Renee Fleming Singing National Anthem At Super Bowl XLVIII
Renee, 54, is a famous soprano from New York and will definitely bring something new to the table. Last year, Alicia Keys performed at the game in New Orleans, and Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera and Carrie Underwood have taken on the huge role in the past.
While Renee is used to performing at The Met, she has some sports performing experience — she sang the National Anthem during the 2003 World Series at Yankee Stadium.
Renee To Join Top Names At Super Bowl
The music of the Super Bowl is almost as talked about as the actual game. For the half time show, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Bruno Mars are taking the stage and have quite the performance to top from last year — Beyonce did shut off the lights.
Howver, she already got the approval of Diane Saweyr! She tweeted out a “thank you” to Diane, who called her the “Queen of the high note” and said that “she will rock”:
