Purdue University Shooting: One Dead & Suspect In Custody

So scary! On Jan. 21, a shooting took place at Purdue University in West Lafeyette, Ind., and it has just been confirmed that one person has died.

Purdue campus police have confirmed that a shooting did take place during the afternoon on Jan. 21 in the electrical engineering building at Purdue University and one person was shot and killed. The police are trying to identify the male victim, according to ABC News.

Purdue University, which has about 29,440 students enrolled has been completely cleared, according to the university. After the shooting, a “shelter in place” text message was sent out to campus, according to WRTV’s ABC News affiliate.

Police are continuing to search campus and the surrounding areas, but police has cleared the building at question on the northeast side of campus, and one person is in custody.

According to The Journal & Courier newspaper, police’s command post was set up next to the engineering mall. The building that the shooting reportedly took place is located in the center of campus, across from the administration building where the president of the school Mitch Daniels‘ office is.
