‘Duck Dynasty’ Star Defends Liam Payne After Hate Tweets

One Direction star Liam Payne unintentionally ignited a Twitter storm when he offered his support to ‘Duck Dynasty’ star Willie Robertson, mere weeks after the anti-gay scandal that nearly took the show off the air. Now, Willie has responded to Liam and his haters — and it looks like the love between ‘Duck Dynasty’ and One Direction is mutual!

One Direction star Liam Payne, 20, probably didn’t mean to imply that he supports Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson‘s anti-gay sentiments when he tweeted his support to Phil’s son Willie on Jan. 18, but the Internet community certainly took it that way! After days of Liam fighting bad press and twitter attacks, Willie responded to the One Direction-er with a sweet message of solidarity.

Willie Robertson Tweets Support To Liam Payne

On Jan. 19, Duck Dynasty‘s businessman Willie wrote to Liam, who had praised the Robertson family’s “family values” on Twitter, to express his support. Liam faced a perfect storm of controversy when fans and media responded negatively to Liam’s initial tweet — saying that it implied that Liam was anti-gay — but Willie encouraged Liam to “stay strong” amidst all the hate.

Liam’s initial tweet wasn’t controversial all on its own, but aligning with the Duck Dynasty clan comes with some baggage nowadays. The Robertson family stood behind its patriarch Phil after he said some pretty horrible things, so Liam faced a lot of hate when he tweeted his support. Not surprising, given the amount of gay and LGBT-friendly One Direction fans!

After the initial tweet, Liam wrote several more complaining about the hateful replies he was receiving, and defending his actions.

What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Is it smart of Liam to align himself with Duck Dynasty?

Listen, as a Catholic woman, brought up , went to schools, go to churh woman. I have 2 gay sons. I don’t agree, but what do I do? STOP LOVING THEM? Not even God can stop that. All I’m asking is for people to stop judging. They are great kids, work with one of the best singers that was and is a HUGE PERSONALITY on T.V.! All I’m asking is that stop judging. So much violence goes to people that are not “PERFECT”! I get sick worrying if I might get a phone call and some ignorant jerk hurt them. Can’t people just be kind? Black people go through this too. Mexicans too. Who the hell are YOU TO JUDGE? Plus, Mr.DUCK DYNASTY………………CHECK YOUR OWN KID! Showing signs. Don’t spit up in the air honey, cause it WILL FALL! Hopefully on your ignorant face!
