The Gosselin twins embarrassed their mom, Kate, on their Jan. 16 appearance on the ‘Today’ show. The reality TV mom tried to show she’s not manipulating the way the girls speak, but she fed them lines when they refused to speak without her direction: the result was the most awkward live interview ever! See the video, here.
Kate Gosselin brought her twin daughters Mady and Cara, 13, on the Today show to let them speak out and prove how normal they are despite their reality TV upbringings, but Kate’s plan blew up in her face: the girls only proved that they were normal teenage girls by shooting their mom glaring looks and awkwardly refusing to answer interviewer’s questions, and giggling together instead of repeating their mom’s prompts. Gosselin Twins Awkward Interview: Kate Gosselin Dissed On ‘Today’ Show
Kate’s plan to prove that her daughters loved speaking out about their normal upbringing backfired, because the moody teens refused to answer questions about how they feel normal, and glared at their mom until she told them what to say.
“We have not seen you or gotten to talk to you two in a long, long time,” host Savannah Guthrie opened, eager to hear the girls’ side of the story. “You’re out because you want to let the world know you’re doing okay — what would you want to say about how you and your sister are doing, Mady?”
Mady refused to answer, and instead just stared at her mom during an awkward pause.
Kate was clearly angered that Mady didn’t use the opportunity to assert her normalcy, so she stepped in and directed her. “Mady, your words,” Kate chastised. “It’s your chance. Spit it out.” Woah!
Kate Gosselin Prompts Twins To Speak During Awkward ‘Today’ Show Interview
When Mady still didn’t come up with a response, Kate took over. “This is their chance to talk. This is the most wordless I’ve heard them all morning,” she explained, clearly embarrassed. “I don’t want to speak for them but, Mady, go ahead.” She prompted her daughter to repeat the sentiments from the family’s Jan. 2014 interview with People magazine, speaking for them. “Sort of the things that you said in the magazine … that years later they’re good, they’re fine. … Go for it, it’s your chance.”
Mady deadpanned, “no, you just said it.”
When it was Cara’s turn to speak, she similarly didn’t have any response to Savannah’s questions, and the twins turned to each other to share giggles and moody side-glances. Kate chalked her daughters’ behavior up to them being tongue-tied, but the teens didn’t seem to be interested in echoing their mom.
