Maia prepares HollywoodLife.com for the drama ahead, beginning with tonight’s winter premiere!
The Fosters returns for the second half of its first season Jan. 13, picking up right where last summer’s game-changing finale left off, with Callie on the run. HollywoodLife.com recently spoke with star Maia Mitchell about Callie’s future with the Fosters — and, more specifically, her future with Brandon (David Lambert).
‘The Fosters’ Winter Premiere: Maia Mitchell Talks Callie & Brandon’s Reunion
“It’s complicated, to say the least,” Maia told us. “Callie and Brandon really do love each other, but it’s not that simple. There are so many other things to consider for them. It’s not going to be easy.”
Maia also told us not to expect too much resolution right away.
“The first few episodes back are so much about the family trying to get Callie back,” she explained. “Before she ran off, they wanted to adopt her, but after the kiss, she kind of freaked out. … And, of course, Brandon will play a huge part in finding her.”
That said, Callie will eventually make it back to the family — come on, the show isn’t called The Fosters… And Callie In The Desert — and they’ll have to struggle to find a middle ground.
“Like I said, Callie and Brandon are in love, and that’s not going to change just because she goes home,” Maia explained. “You can’t control who you have feelings for, and in Callie’s case, it just happens to her possible foster brother.”
Teri Polo & Sherri Saum Talk Pregnancy On ‘The Fosters’
“You’re going to notice a deepening of the relationships,” Teri told us. “We really take it to another level. We’re more comfortable with each other and the stories are richer.”
As for whether or not the writers plan to factor Sherri’s real-life pregnancy into the show?
“I might be hiding behind plants, we’ll see,” Sherri laughed.
