Awards season kicked off with the Golden Globes on Jan. 12, and they did not disappoint. Between the hosts turning the night into a celeb roast, and Jennifer Lawrence charming our pants off, it really was a night to remember.
Why can’t all the big awards shows be like the Golden Globes. The 2014 installment on Jan. 12 once again proved that forcing huge stars to sit together, having Tina Fey and Amy Poehler host, and giving Jennifer Lawrence an award really are the best ways to guarantee an amazing ceremony. The Globes were full of great moments this year — here were our favorites.
Golden Globes 2014 Best Moments: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler & More
After Tina and Amy targeted the likes of Taylor Swift last year, all eyes were on the hosts again to see who’d they go after. No one was safe.
In their monologue, they mispronounced Tom Hanks‘ name, called Matt Damon “a garbage person,” and ragged on Scarlett Johansson‘s breathy voice. And also, Tina told the Somali pirates, “I am the captain now,” so it pretty much went amazingly.
Later in the show, Tina butted in on Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick to introduce Mr. Golden Globes, her adult son Randy (aka Amy Poehler). The bit was amazing, with Amy playing a punk kid and joking that Idris Elba was her long lost father.
Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Thomspon & More: The Golden Globes Speeches
The Globes also featured some incredible acceptance speeches. First, America’s darling Jennifer Lawrence won for Best Supporting Actress and could barely piece her thoughts together.
Then, Jacqueline Bisset won immediately after and didn’t talk for a full minute or so! And then she wouldn’t stop talking! The band actually played a full “get off the stage” song before she took the hint.
But the best on-stage performance has to go to Emma Thompson, who took the stage holding a martini and her heels. “By the way, this red is my blood,” she joked, more or less proving that she is a straight-up bawse.
