Spoiler alert: Stop reading if you haven’t watched the ‘Chicago PD’ series premiere!

NBC’s Chicago Fire spin-off Chicago PD got started with a bang Jan. 8, especially for Sophia Bush, whose character suffered a devastating loss after an unexpected twist claimed the life of a close friend. Sophia recently spoke with HollywoodLife.com and other reporters about the heartbreaking turn of events, and what we can expect from Detective Lindsay in the coming weeks.

‘Chicago PD’ Twist: How Jules’ Death Will Affect Lindsay

While it doesn’t sound like Jules’ death will send Lindsay completely off the rails, it will certainly rattle her. Sophia said it’s an “intense experience” when anyone loses someone close to them, but it’s especially tragic for two females on the force:

For me, to have spent so much time with Chicago police officers … the most bad-ass female undercover officer in the city … to have talked to those women, and to hear what it was like coming up for them, how much harder they get hazed … to lose the only other female who’s in intelligence, somebody who’s my ally in that way, is tough.

Lindsay’s Murky Past — And Future With Voight

The most interesting aspects of Lindsay’s character revolve around her troubled past, and how that past connects her to Sergeant Voight (Jason Beghe). But don’t expect to find out too much anytime soon.

“It won’t happen quickly,” Sophia said of their relationship reveal. “It’ll happen in layers. There’s some great stuff with Lindsay and Halstead in episode six, and she gives him the most back story she’s given to anyone. And that’s still just scratching the surface.”

What Sophia did reveal, however, is that Lindsay may have been involved in the incarceration of Voight’s son Justin, whom we met on Chicago Fire.

“She told him Justin should go to jail because he’s out of control,” Sophia explained. “You can’t paralyze a kid and put someone in the hospital and not be punished for it.”

Lindsay’s Romantic Future: Will She Date Halstead Or Severide?

All work and no play makes anyone a dull girl, so naturally, we asked Sophia about Lindsay’s romantic future on PD. More specifically, we asked whether we should expect her relationship with partner Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) to become anything more than platonic.

“I think it’s going to stay a friendship,” she hesitated. “I don’t know. If Lindsay were to ever have a relationship with her partner, you want to save that, right?”

For now, Sophia said Lindsay and Halstead have “great chemistry” as co-workers, and assured us that we’ll see them “bust each other’s balls” on a regular basis. Besides, if fans get their way, Lindsay will end up in the arms of Fire‘s Severide (Taylor Kinney).

“The internet is pushing for it,” she said. “So we’ll see.”

HollywoodLifers, what did you think of the Chicago PD premiere?
