Will practically lost a second father when his ‘Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ co-star passed away on Dec. 31. Less than a week later, Will paid his respects to James with a touching message on Facebook.
The hilarious back and forth between Will Smith and James Avery on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air is what really made that show legendary. Unfortunately, James sadly passed away on Dec. 31, and after a few days of silence, Will paid his respects to his co-star, friend, and mentor.
Will Smith Remembers James Avery
Posting a picture of the last time he and James were together — a photo that includes several other Fresh Prince stars — Will wrote a beautiful tribute. “Some of my greatest lessons in Acting, Living, and being a respectable human being came through James,” Will wrote. “Every young man needs an Uncle Phil. Rest in peace.”
We’re going to cry!
Watching Will and James on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, you always got the impression that their relationship went much deeper than acting. Their chemistry was the heart of the show, and we can only imagine how heartbroken Will is to lose James.
James Avery Passes Away
James sadly passed away on Dec. 31 after suffering complications from open heart surgery. Post-op, James’ wife had been by his side throughout his recovery. However, she stepped away from his hospital bed for a moment, and when she returned she learned that James’ condition had turned and that he had died. He was 68 years old.
The actor will truly be missed — Will’s heartfelt post is further proof of that. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with his friends and family during this difficult time.
