Season 18 of ‘The Bachelor’ is finally here! On Juanuary 6, we met all 27 of Juan Pablo’s potential loves, and while we weren’t staring at his perfect smile, we were trying to figure out which one was a good match. Read the full episode recap below!
If you watched the first ten minutes of The Bachelor premiere you saw Juan Pablo Galavis shirtless — a lot. So obviously you kept watching with me, to see that his 27 finalists quickly were narrowed down to 18! That was fast . . . and not all the girls were very happy how things were going.
‘The Bachelor’ Premiere: Juan Pablo Looks For Love
Before Juan Pablo met the ladies, he called up a guy who knows a little about the experience — the last bachelor, Sean Lowe. Sean, bright blue eyes and all gave the single dad a little advice: be upfront about not being good with names, have fun, don’t kiss a girl in front of the others (but it’s ok to kiss a lot of them) and of course, trust your gut!
Juan Pablo Meets 27 Potential Loves
After showering — thank you ABC for showing him all soap’d up — Juan Pablo threw on a tuxedo and got ready for the lovely ladies!
I’ve got to say that it may have been one of most awkward first encounters ever filled with weird gifts and some strange awkward silences! I won’t run through all 27, but here’s some I’ve got a feeling you should know about!
Nurse Nikki showed up with a stethoscope to have him listen to how fast her heart was racing. She ended up being the first to spend one-on-one time with him, and while it wasn’t exploding with chemistry, he definitely seemed interested.
Renee is a real estate agent who also got some intimate time with him. When she got the mansion, she shared that she had son of her own, which immediately created a sparkle in his eye. He then went on to her call her “mama” and later “mom,” which creeped me out a bit, but there was no way she was going anywhere — he was immediately attracted to the fact that she was mother.
Lucy, whose career is listed as “free spirit” wore a flower headband and flowy dress but did not wear shoes because she didn’t want to be too tall. She ran outside to get some conversation time with Juan Pablo and seemed a bit too forward for him — she had his feet up on his lap and leaned in so close to him! However, at the end of the night maybe he liked the forward-ness!
Meanwhile, Lauren H. spent the evening crying — it did make me sad since she was left by her last husband-to-be and definitely didn’t seem to be over it. However, she did get her time with him later on but led the conversation with her heartbreak, followed by quite a bit of awkward silence.
Juan Pablo’s Shocking First Impression Rose
The biggest shock of the night was when he had his one-on-one date with 29-year-old Sharleen.
She admitted (to the cameras) that she didn’t feel the “insta-chemistry” and that with all the build up it all felt “a little forced.” We give her props for being honest, but we’d assume she’d be a little more excited — some girls didn’t even get the one on one time!
However, he was absolutely wow’d with her, even complimenting her dress and going on about how elegant she was. He loved that she was from Germany and stood out from the others.
Then he shocked everyone — including her — when he gave her the first impression rose, and she still didn’t get excited. Everyone in the house was shocked, but I wasn’t — he completely loved everything about her. However, she also wasn’t crazy about him like the others, which isn’t exactly fair. But, I guess love isn’t.
Juan Pablo Eliminates 9 On First Night
At the end of the evening, Juan Pablo turned 27 into 18. The first name he called was Claire‘s — the girl who showed up with a fake baby bump!
After saying 17 more names, Juan Pablo ended up sending home the following women:
Alexis, Amy J., Ashley, Christine, Kylie, Lacy, Lauren H., Maggie and Valerie.
We weren’t exactly surprised by the elimination of Lauren H. after she got so emotional over the ex-fiancé thing, or of Amy J. who gave him a massage on their one on one — and it was the most awkward moment of the whole night.
So, HollywoodLifers — what are your first impressions of this season of The Bachelor? Were you surprised by the ladies he sent home? Let us know!
