Yes, I know that Alex and Sierra are fan-favorites, but come on — who could really create a hit record? Think about the radio for a moment, and it’s Jeff who could be a big hit maker!
If there was any contestant who delivered big-time with their X Factor finale performances Dec. 18, it was Jeff Gutt. The Detroit-born 37-year-old with the sexy, raspy voice was a rock star with every note.
Jeff Gutt Should Win Over Alex & Sierra On ‘The X Factor’
While Alex & Sierra are cute and delivered a pretty rendition of “Say Something,” they totally wimped out on both their duet of “Bleeding Love” with Leona Lewis and their delicate rendition of “Give Me Love”.
Hey, I know it’s heartwarming to see them look adoringly into each other’s eyes, but honestly, when was the last time that a sugary, folksy duo ever had a hit record? I’m sorry, but this pair is no Simon & Garfunkel with brilliant songwriting and harmonizing skills. And even Paul Simon hasn’t had a new song on the radio in decades.
The X Factor is about finding a star (or stars) with a viable career. And that is a tall order today.
The reason — both groups have been able to tap into young fan bases who love their heart-throbbing good looks and poppy sounds.
Jeff Gutt Has More Potential Than Alex & Sierra To Sell Tickets To A Rock-Loving Fanbase
Alex & Sierra simply won’t have an existing fan base of music-buyers and concert-goers to support their careers.
But Jeff Gutt doesn’t have that problem.
His powerful, gruffly distinctive voice is one that radio will love. He proved that last night with his stirring renditions of rock anthems “Dream On” and “Creep.”
He’s got a voice that conveys deep, heartfelt emotion so effortlessly that he’ll be able to handle any richly written rock tune.
And there is still a large fanbase of rock lovers who will buy records: think of how the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kings of Leon, Imagine Dragons and Mumford & Sons are still soaring on the music charts . Jeff can tap into this large, already-existing fanbase. His rendition of “Hallelujah” from Season 3 is still selling well on iTunes.
I realize that Alex & Sierra’s “Say Something” and “Gravity” are selling briskly on iTunes. But I’d argue that that’s because of their presence on The X Factor. Once that exposure is gone, I don’t think they’re strong enough to conquer the airwaves on their own.
Plus, I’m sorry, but in terms of stage presence, Alex & Sierra have zippo sex appeal.
Jeff, 37, however, kills it in that department; the single dad is damn cute! And we all know that sex appeal — which he exuded in his performance of “Bohemian Rhapsody”– drives concert ticket sales.
So, HollywoodLifers, start casting your votes for the man who can really conquer the airwaves with a long-term listenable voice — Jeff Gutt! Do you agree? Let me know!
