Hey ‘SNL,’ where are those good old-fashioned values? They were nowhere to be found on the ‘Weekend Update’ segment of the show’s Dec. 7 episode, when a character played by Taran Killam did not hesitate to trudge up Brian’s passing.
It’s only been a little more than a week since [SPOILER ALERT] the dog Brian Griffin was killed off on Family Guy, but nothing’s too soon for Saturday Night Live.
‘SNL’ Jokes About Brian Griffin
On the show’s “Weekend Update” on Dec. 7, cast member Taran Killam played Jebidiah Atkinson, an 1860s newspaper critic, who was brought on the show to review some classic Christmas specials.
Brian was roped into the segment during Jebidiah’s review of A Charlie Brown Christmas. After skewering Charlie Brown himself (“There’s a pube on your forehead!”), Jebidiah then moved on to Snoopy. “Don’t even get me started on Snoopy,” he said. “If you ask me, Family Guy killed the wrong dog!”
When the crowd reacted with a hint of shock, Jebidiah shouted back, “What!? He’s a cartoon!”
Brian Griffin Replaced On ‘Family Guy’
SNL wasn’t the only time Brian got a little shade thrown on him this weekend. Even his own show wasn’t doing much to remember him!
On the Dec. 8 episode of Family Guy, the first episode since Brian was killed, he was replaced in the intro by the Griffin’s new family pet, Vinny. The new dog (who looks more like an anteater) wore Brian’s tuxedo and even stole his line in the opening song.
Man, it’s hard out there for a slain TV dog.
What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Was SNL‘s joke too soon? Or is Jebidiah right to say it’s just a cartoon!?
