The ‘Anchorman’ actor may have been the host of the Dec. 7 episode of ‘Saturday Night Live,’ but it was clear that everyone was there to see 1D. And the boys killed it, appearing in the opening monologue AND a later skit!

The One Direction guys’ great senses of humor have been well-documented, so we were hoping they’d get a chance to flex their comedic muscles as the musical guest on the Dec. 7 episode of Saturday Night Live. And we were not disappointed.

One Direction Outshines Paul Rudd On ‘SNL’

Right away, host Paul Rudd joked that he wasn’t worried about being overshadowed by the musical guest. “Tonight is the Paul Rudd show,” he stated. On cue, the crowd then cheered wildly as Harry StylesNiall HoranLiam PayneLouis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik strode onto the stage behind Paul.

“You just do that comedy stuff and we’ll stand back here and pause and blow kisses,” Niall joked. We especially liked Harry’s beating heart gesture! In response, Paul, knowing he was overmatched, brought out his boy band — the cast of Anchorman!

That’s when things really picked up, as 1D joined Paul, Will FerrellSteve Carell, and David Koechner in singing “Afternoon Delight,” a callback to the first Anchorman movie. “Now we are Nine Direction,” Paul cracked after the perfect rendition.

Paul Rudd Is One Direction’s Biggest Fan

1D’s second appearance of the night came in a skit where Paul played Dan Charles, One Direction’s #1 Fan. The sketch was pretty hilarious, as Paul sassily challenged actual Directioners on 1D trivia. “Oh, oh oh, you don’t know your basic facts,” he hilariously sang at one young fan.

The boys were really just the icing on top — as Paul’s character went bonkers when they showed up. Paul creepily asked the guys for autographs, and it was funny to see 1D act so confused over why this weird grown man was fan-girling over them.

Adding up these two funny skits with 1D’s two great performances, it was really a big night for the group. How do you think they did, HollywoodLifers? Let us know!
