Meredith Baxter is officially a newlywed! The 66-year-old actress, who surprised many in Dec. 2009 when she came out as a lesbian, said “I do” to her longtime partner, contractor Nancy Locke, in Los Angeles on Dec. 8.
Meredith and Nancy exchanged their handwritten vows in an intimate ceremony, according to People. Close friends and family, including Meredith’s five children, were all in attendance to see the lovebirds tie the knot.
A family friend reportedly played guitar and sang at the ceremony, and then the party really got going. At the wedding reception, Nancy’s band took the stage and performed before it was time for the couple’s first dance. Meredith and Nancy had reportedly taken dance lessons in preparation of the big moment, so we’re sure the extra work really paid off.
“Now I understand why marriage caught on!” Meredith quipped to People.
Meredith and Nancy have been dating for seven years. In 2009, the Family Ties actress came out as a lesbian in a touching interview. “I feel like I’m being honest for the first time,” Meredith stated then. We can only imagine how happy and fulfilled she feels now.
Prior to marrying Nancy, Meredith has been married three different times. She first wed Robert Lewis Bush in 1966. They were married for three years and had two children together.
Meredith was then married to David Birney for 16 years before divorcing in 1990 — David is the father of Meredith’s three other children — and in 1995, Meredith married Michael Blodgett. Meredith and Michael were together until getting divorced in the year 2000.
But it really seems that Meredith has now found her true soulmate in Nancy. We wish the newlyweds the best!
