While Dec. 5 is a little early for a Christmas special, it was the perfect time for Glee to celebrate airing a never-before-season episode from season four. While the New Directions worked hard to reacreate the nativity scene, Rachel (Lea Michele), Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Santana (Naya Rivera) got jobs at a local mall . . . as elves.
Yes, it was just as weird as it sounds. Last year during Glee‘s holiday special, Kurt and Rachel were already in NYC, but she ended up heading on a cruise with her father. However on the flashback episode, she turned down the invite for the cruise to stay with Kurt in NY.
Additionally, Santana wasn’t in Lima in last year’s episode so it does make sense that she could have been visiting Kurt and Rachel.
The three of them get a job at a local mall and we’ve got to say — they make adorable singing elves. They’re pretty shocked at how annoying kids are when they come to visit, though so are happy when they had a special visitor to help bring back that Christmas cheer.
We absolutely loved both songs the NY crew performed: “Here Comes Santa Claus (Down Santa Claus Lane),” and “The Chipmunk Song!”
However, we didn’t love Kurt making out with Santa — yes, he was single when this apparently took place, but seeing him kiss anyone other than Blaine (Darren Criss) is just weird.
Meanwhile in McKinley, a decorating contest comes to a hault when a humbug ruins the school’s manger scene. After “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” the New Directions decide to recreate the school’s nativity scene — and it’s absolutely perfect.
Becky (Lauren Potter) played both baby Jesus and the actual manger, while Kitty (Becca Tobin) somehow is nominated as Virgin Mary — yes, we were thinking of Marley (Melissa Benoist), too.
So, Hollywoodifers — how do you feel about the flashback? Are you glad they showed the unaired episode or was it confusingly placed? Let us know!
