What are we most thankful for? Dogs! The top show dogs from around the country came together for the National Dog Show on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, and after the cutest competition ever, the grand prize was awarded to the American Fox Hound named Jewel.
Thanksgiving has a lot of traditions — turkey, football, the Macy’s parade — but one that often gets overlooked is the annual National Dog Show. And this year’s event did not disappoint, as an adorable American Fox Hound named Jewel took home Best in Show.
The American Fox Hound Wins The National Dog Show
Though we had an impossible time trying to pick a favorite pooch, we can see why the judges fell in love with Jewel, an American Fox Hound.
The dog was an absolutely gorgeous pick — stately and strong-looking, but also cute and playful. Jewel was also extremely well-trained, which likely put her over the edge for the judges.
George Washington actually owned American Fox Hounds, so it seems fitting that one would win the National Dog Show on Thanksgiving Day.
Newcomers To The National Dog Show
Jewel had some new competition this year — it was the Chinook, the Rat Terrier, and the Portuguese Podengo Pequeno’s first time in the National Dog Show.
And though none of the new breeds won the top prize, host John O’Hurley couldn’t help but rave about them prior to the show. “The Chinook is a beautiful dog,” he told Zap2It. He also complimented the rat terrier, calling the Jack Russell look-alike “a really cute dog.”
But aren’t they all?
What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Are you happy Jewel won Best in Show? Who were you rooting for? Let us know!
