Both chains are joining a list of retailers who are opening their doors on the holiday and kicking off their major sales a day early — but would you skip Thanksgiving dinner just to score a great deal? VOTE.
It feels like every year the Black Friday deals start earlier and earlier, but Black Friday 2013 just might be setting a new record! Walmart announced that the company has decided to kick off their Thanksgiving weekend sales at 6 PM on Thursday, (Thanksgiving), joining a slew of retailers who will also open their doors on the holiday. Although the mass retailer did open last year on Thanksgiving, the new time is two hours earlier than that of 2012.
Walmart Black Friday 2013 — Opening On Thanksgiving Along With Target:
Walmart’s early start time will proceed the opening of both J.C. Penney and Macy’s. Both retailers are set to open their doors at 8 PM on Thanksgiving.
Although Walmart is opening earlier than most stores, Toys R Us actually has trumped the retailer’s start time, as it’s set to open at 5 PM on Thanksgiving. Target also announced that they plan on opening their doors on Thursday evening.
So, why the rush? Apparently since Thanksgiving is later this year retailers are trying to make up for a shorter holiday shopping season. The 2013 season is six days shorter than usual. Retailers are also concerned about sales due to the 16-day government shutdown, which has impacted consumer confidence.
While some may be excited to get a head start on their holiday shopping, other consumers are turned off to the idea that mass retailers are trying to infringe on the holiday.
What do you think? Will you be ready to shop on Thanksgiving or do you think retailers are taking things way too far?
