Change.org is petitioning the lingerie brand to enlist model Carmen Carrera, who originally appeared on ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race,’ as their first transgender model in the 2013 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Do you think Carmen should snag a coveted spot on the runway?
Carmen Carrera was a favorite on season three of RuPaul’s Drag Race and made headlines after she publicly transitioned after the show was over — and the 28-year-old model is back in the news as Change.org’s petition to have the model walk on the runway has been signed by over 28,000 people.
Victoria’s Secret Petitioned To Make Carmen Carrera First Transgender Model:
“This petition is for Victoria’s Secret to seriously consider taking Carmen Carrera on as an Angel,” the petition states. “By making Carmen the very first trans supermodel, you will help to end femmephobia within the LGBTIQQA community, but also it will show the entire trans community that you embrace them as your patrons.”
Not only does the petition want Carmen to walk in the show, but they also petitioning so that Carmen would be awarded with an “Angel” contract. VS Angels are contractually obligated to star in a slew of campaigns and make many appearances on behalf of the brand.
The show, which is scheduled for Nov. 13 at the Lexington Armory in NYC, will feature a slew of supermodels including Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima, Miranda Kerr, and Candice Swanepoel. Aside from lots of lingerie, the show will also feature show-stopping performances and Candice will unveil the $10 million Fantasy Bra on the runway. The show will air on Dec. 10 on CBS.
