One particularly obnoxious award show staple is the camera panning to the losers when a winner is announced, and poor Kacey became a victim of this tricky practice at the CMA Awards on Nov. 6. Kacey, also a winner, was caught frowning when Miranda accepted her trophy for Best Female Vocalist.
Most actors and musicians practice their best “loser face” before they even reach the red carpet, but Kacey Musgraves, 25, must be too green to know this unspoken rule. Even though she nabbed the award for New Artist of the Year at the CMA Awards on Nov. 6, her unhappy face revealed that she was not cool with losing Female Vocalist of the Year to Miranda Lambert, 29.
Kacey Musgraves’ Unfortunate Moment
It should have been the perfect night for Kacey. She looked gorgeous and took home one of the CMA Awards’ most coveted trophies, which would be enough to make most young ladies smile. But the “Merry Go Round” singer faced some media backlash after the cameras caught her looking mighty bored and unhappy when Miranda gleefully accepted her trophy for Female Vocalist of the Year, an award we think Kasey deserved to win. (And it looks like she did, too!)
Now country-loving tongues are wagging, speculating on a rivalry between Kacey and Miranda. However, the fact that Miranda acknowledged and congratulated Kacey on her success as she accepted her award makes any bad blood between the two seem unlikely.
Did Kacey Mean Anything By It?
If Kasey has learned anything from this whole debacle, it’s that you have to fake a beaming smile throughout your rival’s entire acceptance speech. If not, the cameras will lock on to that grumpy resting face and never let it go.
Miranda and Kacey seem to be friendly, and have even collaborated in the past, with Kacey co-writing Lambert’s hit “Mama’s Broken Heart,” so we’re going to give Kacey a pass on this one. But still, Kacey — learn to fake a smile or two!
What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Was Kacey being a bad sport, or was she just caught in a bad moment?
