Congratulations to Girls’ Generation! On Nov. 3, the South Korean girl group took home the biggest award of the night at the first-ever YouTube Awards! Up against Demi Lovato, Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus, it was by far the toughest competition of all!
The live show (with no script) took place in New York City at Pier 36. Girls’ Generation’s Tiffany Hwang was there to accept the award on behalf of her band — the nine girls.
She was adorable and shocked thanking YouTube as well as her fans. The group was formed in 2007 by S.M. Entertainment. In Japan, they are known as Shoujo Jidai. The girls are all aged 22-24 — it’s so great that such young girls could be such YouTube sensations!
Girls’ Generation was up against some of the biggest artists of the year! Below are all the nominations she was up against!
Epic Rap Battles Of History‘s “Barack Obama vs Mitt Romney”
Demi Lovato — “Heart Attack”
Justin Bieber (feat. Nicki Minaj) — “Beauty And A Beat”
Lady Gaga- “Applause”
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (feat. Mary Lambert — “Same Love”
Miley Cyrus — “We Can’t Stop”
One Direction — “Best Song Ever”
PSY — “Gentleman”
Selena Gomez — “Come & Get It”
While we were definitely shocked, it’s really great that Girls’ Generation won!
So, HollywoodLifers — do you think the right song won? Who did you want to win the Video of the Year? Let us know!
